The first Sunday in February is a key date in Montfort’s winter calendar. The patron saint of our village, Saint Blaise, is celebrated on this day.
After mass, the whole village joins the procession behind the statue of Saint Blaise held aloft by the villagers.
As the villagers file out of the church, to the sound of black powder muskets, the procession begins, heading down Rue de La Rouguière and up the hill towards the Templar Castle, past Maison Lambot B&B.
The ‘Bravardeurs’ stop every few hundred meters to reload and fire their muskets, the villagers sing traditional songs in homage to the patron saint, until the entire Prosessional makes a stop in front of the Templar castle where dances in traditional costume take place.
